SA Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Museum inaugural Life Membership presentation

On Tuesday 16 May 2023, Rex Hall was awarded Life Membership by his son Alan Hall, who now holds the Chairperson role on the Museum committee.

At the recent SA Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Museum’s annual general meeting, it was motioned that Rex be honoured with a Life Membership in recognition of his dedication and achievements toward the establishment of the Museum.

Rex, who has held the position of Chairperson on the museum committee since its conception, did not stand for re-election this term due to failing health.

The museum was first conceived of over 20 years ago, and Rex has led its development from a fledgling idea to the current memorial and museum site. To focus on these tangible outcomes however, would be to overlook the substantial and ceaseless efforts Rex has made in building ties and support across the SA CFS family, maintaining connections and momentum across changing government and CFS leadership, fundraising for the Museum and other great causes, and fitting in this extra work on top of his operational work within the CFS, fireground management and coordination during bushfire events, and the uncountable reunions and events he has managed throughout his time with the CFS.

The small but moving ceremony was timed to coincide with a surprise visit for Rex by treasured lifelong friends Peter Kemp and Kevin May, who travelled from Adelaide to see Rex in hospital. Also in attendance were committee members Alison Fraser (Secretary) and Christine Hall (Treasurer and Membership Officer).

After the presentation, it was a great joy for Peter and Kevin to reminisce with Rex during their brief visit.
